Showing is a fun way for kids to learn good sportsmanship and to be rewarded for their hard work, and it's a great way for adults to enjoy a very social atmosphere full of friendly competition.
There are many different divisions and classes within divisions at horse shows, including 3-gaited, 5-gaited and driving classes, as well as equitation. At LMS, we can help you decide how, when and where to show.

From the sale pen to the show ring
This is the story of CHEIR, sired by the grand horse Supreme Heir. You would never expect to see such a royally bred young mare in a common auction pen, but there she stood.Rescued by Naomi McGhee from the Kingsville, MO sale barn in July of 2006, when she was just a two year old. Naomi saw her at the far end of the horse lot and just knew this was a quality Saddlebred. At this particular sale, they run the horses through the sale like cattle, turning them loose into the arena and right out the other end, taking whatever bid they can get. Naomi went into the office and found out the filly had been dropped off of a trailer with a group and the driver left them with instructions to send him a check for whatever they brought. The staff at the sale barn had a drawer where papers were thrown willy nilly, and after rifling through the drawer, Naomi came up with the correct papers! She had to leave before the filly went through, but she left a bid with the office. They called her a little while later to let her know that she had purchased Cheir for $200! She sent her friend, Moses Key (pictured below at the sale with Cheir) to pick her up. Moses and Mari Key kept Cheir in their pasture until she was a three year old. The filly was very shy of people and Mari had taken it upon herself to befriend the filly upon her arrival at their farm.Naomi called me to see if I knew anyone that could start a Quarter Horse that she had rescued, and we got to talking about Saddlebreds. She told me about the filly. I asked how she was bred and a deal was struck in October of 2007. When I picked up Cheir from the Keys, she was in great shape and ready to go to work.
Pictured above winning her "Second Chance" neck ribbon at the 2008 Central States Benefit Horse Show, which supports the Saddlebred Rescue organization. The Second Chance class was held to benefit the Rescue, and each horse entered was a rescued Saddlebred (five entries). All five horses had collection cans with a before and after photo, and the winning horse was the one voted by dollars collected.

Hopefully, Cheir is going to start her show career this year with McCallister Stable. The mare may be small in stature, but she has a big heart and an even bigger motor to go with it!
